History

William R. Dooley and Kenneth D. Smith were childhood friends, who never imagined their paths would cross later in life to create a business. In 1977, DooleyMack Constructors opened its doors, with Wendy Mack, CFO, joining the team shortly thereafter. Today, the Lakewood Ranch based business is ranked 4th in the “Top 50 Contractors” by Gulf Coast Business Review and is ranked in the “Top 400 Contractors 2006” by Engineering News Record. As quoted by Senator Bob Johnson, “DooleyMack represents the finest construction firm in southwest Florida, their competitive spirit, diligence and workmanship have brought them excellent reviews and acclaim.” Today, the DooleyMack team has more than 180 associates, with offices located in Fort Lauderdale, Panama City, Key West, Atlanta, Dallas and the Carolinas. DooleyMack provides services to the following core markets: condo/multi-family, health care, education, hospitality, commercial, retail and historical restoration. DooleyMack offers specialized services in: construction management, pre-construction services, general contracting, program management, design/build, master planning and development.

When Hurricane Charley devastated the Punta Gorda area in 2004, the severity of need was extreme. The DooleyMack team mobilized quickly, arriving the next day. The team assisted residents, business owners and city and county officials in assessing damage and immediately started the clean up process. In 2006, The Association of Builders and Contractors awarded DooleyMack the Excellence in Construction Award for the Charlotte County Schools Hurricane Recovery Project for completing two modular campuses, Punta Gorda Middle School and Charlotte County High School. Today, the 30 acre ‘portable city’ campus serves 3,346 students.

A business is only as good as its associates, and DooleyMack actively recruits talent from local schools and colleges, encouraging students to explore construction and technical trades from a young age. As an integral part of the community, DooleyMack is involved in many area organizations, and is proud to call Sarasota home.

DooleyMack believes, “people do business with people” that they like and trust. They focus on delivering impeccable workmanship, valuable services and long-term relationships, resulting in 80% repeat business and client referrals. The company is a progressive organization dedicated to construction excellence and building relationships with lasting value.
